Psalm 91 has always been a source of comfort to me in times of trouble. Its profound message of refuge and divine protection “ He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge" (Psalm 91:4) . This Psalm is the inspiration for this Art work, called Protected”. I Initially developed a number of sketches based on the idea of being wrapped in Angels wings. From one of the drawings I combined it with a photograph of a pink rose, and digitally manipulated the combination to eventually create a piece that resembled an etching. Using delicate pen work and a warm palette of pink and brown hues from the pink rose, I wanted the artwork to brings to life the profound sense of being enveloped by heavenly protection and peace.

The Spiritual Meaning Behind the Artwork

The soft pink tones of the rose symbolises warmth, love and divine care and the subtle brown textured hues to evoke stability and a sense of peace, giving an impression of being cradled and embraced, far from the worries and cares of this world. The various pen strokes of the Angel wing’s adds an element of softness, signifying God’s gentle and tender love as well as his protection surrounding us.
